MAKURDI—In a renewed bid to restore the master plan of Makurdi and other towns in Benue State, the state government has destroyed about 200 unauthorised houses and structures at Zaki-Biam, Ukum Local Government Council.
The demolition exercise was led by the General Manager, Benue Sate Urban Development Board, BSUDB, Mr. Musa Ujor, who told newsmen in Zaki-Biam that “the demolished structures were illegally developed without necessary approvals.”
He said: “This action is part of the renewed effort by the board to sanitize and rid most urban centres in the state of illegal structures and unauthorized land development. The board will continue to demolish all illegal developments by local government councils and individuals in the 23 local government areas of Benue State which were erected without the approval of the board until the right things are done.
”And I can assure you that we will not spare anyone who willingly flouts the laws of the state as regards land development, irrespective of his or her social status.
“Whoever violates the law would do so at his or her own peril because what we have done here today should serve as a warning to those who are taking the state government for granted.
“My team is moving from one local government area to the other and we will not hesitate to pull down any illegal structure found in any part of the state to ensure sanity in land development.”
