Sunshine groan over Ogunbote’s exit

By Ben Efe

Sunshine Stars of Akure top brass have revealed their disappointments over the resignation of their respected coach, Gbenga Ogunbote.

The coach who led the club to two impressive continental title chase in back to back seasons, walked away from Sunshine after his contract expired. But according to director of Ondo Football Agency, Mike Idoko, the management wanted Ogunbote to stay, but it appeared he had made up his mind on leaving.

Ogunbote resigned on Wednesday after leading Sunshine to the final of the CAF  Confederations Cup in 2011 and this season he was stopped by Egyptian giants, Al Ahly from reaching the final of the CAF Champions League.

“We pleaded with him not to leave even though he did not take the team to where we wanted. The commissioner for sports spoke to him for over an hour and I also did the same, but he just wanted to leave and it hurts to see him go,” said Mr. Idoko.
