After exploding off the blocks in their second Group A clash against Azerbaijan Tuesday, in which they scored seven goals without reply in the first 45 minutes at Lankaran City Stadium and another four in the second half, Nigeria’s Flamingoes will tomorrow, seek another massive win when they confront Colombia in their final first round match of the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Azerbaijan.
The whitewash of the hosts by the Nigerians was indeed an eye-opener for the Eastern European nation, whose coach, Sissy Raith confessed that it was going to take some time for them to come over the shock f the 11-0 thrashing.
“This is an experience that will take time for all of us to get over, but it is something that will help us in football and in our lives.” said Raith
And it is this imperious form that the Flamingoes will take into tomorrow’s game against the Colombians, who with three points must beat the Africans to have any hope of qualifying for the next round of the tournament.
Coach Fabian Tabord will be relying on his players to do the hard job of beating the Nigerians, whose coach, Peter Dedevbo is brimming with optimism of another victorious run. On paper, the Nigerians, who lead the log are favoured to win but as in the case of the match against Canada, the Africans will be hoping that luck shines of them as the eye the scalp of the Colombians.
