AKURE—THE Action Congress of Nigeria has picked a former Senatorial candidate under the party Dr. Paul Akintelure, as its deputy governorship candidate for the October 20 governorship election.
This is coming barely two weeks after the party submitted the name of its state Secretary, Olutope Adedipe to INEC to beat the deadline of the submission of candidateS for the election by Parties.
Vanguard learnt in Akure that the governorship candidate of the party, Mr. Rotimi Akeredolu, nominated Akintelure and sought the approval of the party national leadership last week.
Akintelure it was gathered had submitted his nomination forms to the Ondo State office of the Independent National Electoral Commission in Akure on Monday.
Vanguard gathered that the party leaders made public the choice of Akintelure at a meeting in Ila-Orangun yesterday.
Consequently the form of the state the Secretary of the party Adedipe earlier submitted as the deputy governorship candidate, had been withdrawn.
Director of Publicity and Media Relations of the Akeredolu Campaign Organisation, Mr. Idowu Ajanaku, has confirmed the nomination of Akintelure.
Ajanaku said, “Akintelure is qualified to be the deputy governor of Ondo state. He is a successful medical practitioner who had paid his dues as a committed member of the ACN in the state.
“He contested the Ondo South Senatorial election last year on the platform of the party and he is well respected by the people of Ikale where he holds the chieftaincy title of Otunba of Ikale land”.
Also, INEC’s Head of Public Affairs in the state, Mrs. Celina Beckley, claimed ignorance of the development when contacted yesterday.
