By Emma Elebeke

IN continuation of its youth empowerment programme, Project-X recently organized a two day free information technology awareness training for youths in secondary and tertiary institutions.

The initiative seeks to empower individuals with ICT skills with a view to make them become self reliant and financially dependent. The 2012 edition of the training covered the basics of ORACLE, CCNA, JAVA, among others IT oriented areas.

Speaking on the training, the Director of the programme, Fegho Umunubo said the objective of the initiative was among other things to develop strategies for maximum awareness of ICT and media Tools amongst young individuals and as a post plan to Partner with credible and reliable ICT & Media organizations to render their services at a lower rate with Global standard.

Umunubo said that ICT illiteracy rate among young people in and out of secondary and higher institutions of learning in Nigeria stands at an alarming rate which he said was attributable to either low access to adequate ICT materials  or high level of ICT illiteracy in the country.
