6 million expected at RCCG’s 60th Convention

By Sam Eyoboka & OLAYINKA LATONA

ABOUT six million people from different parts of the world are expected to attend the 60th annual convention of the Re-deemed Christian Church of God, RCCG, which expected to open tomorrow at the Red-emption Camp on the busy Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

Theme: ‘Come up higher.’ Ministering will be the Gen-eral Overseer, Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye with several other anointed ministers.

This year’s convention will also mark the 60th anniversary of the church. The Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG, was established in 1952 by late Pa Josiah Akinda-yomi who was born in July 1909 into the Akindayomi fam-ily of Ondo State. RCCG is reputed to be the fastest grow-ing church in the world with many branches all over the world.

It is headed by Pastor Enoch Adeboye, a man named by in-fluential American Newsweek Magazine as ‘One of The World’s 50 Most Powerful Peo-ple’ and who led the pre-Summit prayers at the 64th General Assembly of the United Nations at the Head-quarters in New York in 1999.

The 60th annual convention is expected to feature a variety of events including the ordi-nation of deacons, assistant pastors, pastors, graduation of Bible College students, semin-ars on different topics, plenary sessions and special events that will be of benefit to all and sundry. There will be sing ministrat-ions from different groups, cultural dances and dramas to spice up the week long event.

Speaking in an interview, the manager in charge of the camp, Pastor A.F. Elufowoju said the church had made de-liberate effort to ensure the se-curity of lives and property during the week long event, maintaining that security personnel will be deployed by the Lagos and Ogun states co-mmands.

While urging participants to make use of the numerous car parks in the camp, the camp manager assured motorists that a combined effort of the Federal Road Safety Corps drawn from both Lagos and Ogun states and volunteers from the church who been adequately trained, will ensure smooth flow of traffic on the busy expressway.

He, however, urged motor-ists to obey instructions of the traffic managers to avoid un-due delays on the road, add-ing that adequate arrange-ments have also been put in place for participants’ conven-ience throughout the duration of the convention, noting that the number of toilets around the Holy Ghost Arena, venue of the annual spiritual fiesta has increased to over 400.

Similarly, he noted that in addition to generators that are scattered all around the camp, there are two noiseless turbin-es with the capacity to run on any kind of fuel, and do the job of six 1,000 KVA gener-ators.

According to the camp man-ager, the only major challenge facing the church is how to accommodate the huge num-ber of people coming from di-fferent parts of the world, sta-ting, however, that a number of the participants will stay at the main auditorium which will serve as the venue of the convention.
