Athletics Federation of Nigeria technical director, Omatseye Nasiama said the recent result posted by Nigerian athletes at the African Championships in Port Novo, Benin Republic was a pointer that athletics is on the track to full recovery in the country.

Navy Captain Nasiama submitted that with the result, Nigerians can be assured that the athletes will rescue some medals for the country at the London 2012 Olympics, which begin on July 27.

“I am so excited and at the same time delighted that our team not only won the African Athletics Championships, we  also improved in our performances in many areas this year.

“Its a clear sign that in spite of odds and difficulties, we can as a team always rise up to the occasion. It’s a good reward to the athletes, technical crew and Board of the AFN. I particularly congratulate the AFN president, Solomon Ogba for his resilience and selfless leadership style” Nasiama stated.

He called on private and public concerns to partner with the AFN in the federation’s bid to bring back the glory days.

“The whole effort that culminated into the victory just achieved is a warning signal that we are back to the glory days. All we require now is partnership cooperation support for our programmes from well meaning individuals and organisations.”
