In line with the popular proverb that says it takes a village to raise a child, a combination of British, American and Nigerian curriculum school, Mervyn Academy, has commenced plans to award scholarships to best two students from each of the schools within its host community.

The school, which occupies 4.25 hectares of land in Sabon-Lugbe, is determined to impact on its host community by granting scholarships to best two students from within that community.Senior Principal of the school, Dr Gabriel Onyekuru, in Abuja, said the school would meet with heads of communities and schools about picking two best students from each of the schools within the  host community.

He said in addition to the vital role that parents and family members play in a child’s education, the broader community too has a responsibility to assure high-quality education for  students.

With full commencement in September, the school has five non-cognitive approaches to learning such as academic behavior, mindset, perseverance, learning and strategies, and social skills.

Onyekuru made this known while unfolding the plans of the school to take students beyond the traditional method of teaching by imbibing the culture of physical, psychological and social approach to learning with all the learning equipment of touch, feel and think.

The Senior Principal said, “The school will take off fully in September this year with a maximum of 200 students and a maximum of 15 students in a class. We are making moves to talk to heads of community and heads of schools to assist in picking the two best students from the schools in the community as our social responsibility to the host community of this school” He said that the classes are built for that purposely for that so as not to accommodate more than the 15 students in order for teachers to have good interaction with each of the students.

He said the school has teachers from within Nigerian and outside the country that will inculcate not only the British and American without losing touch of the Nigerian culture and values.
