Constitution review: Abia sets up 7-man c’ttee to articulate opinion

UMUAHIA—ABIA State House of Assembly, has set up a 7-member Adhoc Committee to articulate the views of the State on the ongoing review of the 1999 constitution.

Headed by the member representing Isiala Ngwa North, Mr. Martins Azubuike, the committee which has since commenced sitting, is said to have consulted with a cross session of the people of the state to come up with a position for the  state.

Deputy Speaker of the House, Mr. Alwell Asiforo Okere explained that the committee would articulate the aggregate opinion of the people on the constitution review.

Okere named other members of the committee to include Mrs. Kate Maduako, representing Aba Central State Constituency; Mr. Mba Ukaha, representing Ohafia South; Mr. Mezie Nwaubani, representing Ukwa West; Prince Ikedi Ezekwesiri, representing Umunneochi and Prince Emeka Osoagbaka, representing Ikwuano constituency.

According to him, the committee members were carefully selected and expressed the hope that the members would come up with a position that Abias would be proud of.

The deputy speaker who is the House Committee Chairman on Information said  the House within the period under review passed a resolution, urging the state Chief Judge to return the state High Ohehe in Ukwa West Council Area.  The Court was relocated to Aba at the peak of the spate kidnapping in the state about two years ago.

According to Okere, the House resolved that now that security had been restored to the area and the state in general, the Chief Judge should return the court to its original place.
