Police in Apapa declare war against criminals

By Ifeanyi Okolie
The Police at Apapa, Lagos Sate have declared fresh onslaught against crime and criminality in the area with a stern warning to perpetrators to either desist from their nefarious activities or re-locate  somewhere else.  The newly posted Divisional Police Officer in the area, Chief Superintendent of Police, CSP, Usman Ndababor said in order to achieve this goal, he has already mapped out some notorious points for serious raids with a view to driving away all criminal elements.

According to him, “Some notorious roundabouts like; Kingsway, Kalakuta, Nigeria Airways, Maybin road, Liverpool etc which are criminally infested, especially late at nights like 12 midnight till dawn, have been brought into focus.

These criminals usually use motorcycles to waylay unsuspecting passersby and even motorists coming from various homes and forcefully dispossess them of their valuable personal belongings.  Some are even killed or wounded.  That is why we are coming out to send a signal that it is no longer business as usual.

“We are ready to sustain the raid to ensure that all criminal activities are reduced to the barest minimum.  We have also strategized  over the menace of those that hijack trucks and this time around, it is no longer going to be the same story.  We will go all out for them and those caught will be severly dealt with.

We will also ensure that this time around, residents of the area will comfortably sleep with both eyes closed.  To this end, we have already mapped out the area into three criminal zones.  They are the violent, moderate and social zones and we have different strategies in bringing  down criminality in these areas.

I urge residents of the area to join hands in fighting crime because it is not just the responsibility of the police alone but that of all of us.  Truck drivers who use to entertain fears as a result of attacks by these hoodlums should no longer entertain fears,” he sated.
