…Over conduct of exams on public holiday
Owerri—A LECTURER in the Department of Hospitality and Tourism Management, HTM, Imo State University, IMSU, Dr Eugene Ukabuilu and 27 students of the institution are to appear before the Senate Disciplinary Committee of the university for alleged misconduct.
Ukabuilu, a Senior Lecturer, allegedly conducted HTM 435 examination on Democracy Day, in violation of the examination timetable.
The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Bright Nwoke, told the News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, yesterday that the examination was conducted without school accredited supervisors.
He described the examination as illegal since it was conducted in violation of the school examination timetable.
The vice-chancellor said the management of the institution had earlier decided on massive examination supervision and wondered why any lecturer could decide to conduct an examination on a national public holiday.
He told NAN that school management had nullified the examination, adding that fresh date would be communicated to the affected students.
When NAN approached the lecturer for his comments, he declined to speak.
In a related development, 27 students of IMSU will appear before the Senate Disciplinary Committee over examination malpractice.
The vice-chancellor said students found guilty by the committee would be rusticated. He said the school had warned against examination malpractices, stressing that such acts had destroyed the academic system in Nigeria.
He reassured of his commitment to sanitise the academic community in the university.
