Uduaghan vows to investigate corruption in civil service recruitment

Gov. Emmanuel Uduaghan of Delta on Thursday reiterated government’s commitment to investigate the recruitment process into the state public service since 2011.

Uduaghan said this at a meeting with professionals and civil society groups in the state in Asaba.

The Governor had during the Workers Day celebration, announced the suspension of further recruitment into the public service until investigation was concluded.

According to him, the investigation is necessary because of the alleged fraud in the recruitment process, where some officials allegedly sold job slots for as much as N600,000.

“In the last one year, we initially approved and commenced with the recruitment of 250 persons for employment into the state civil service.

“After meeting with the labour leaders, we increased the job slots to 1,000. The process was still on but on Workers Day, issues were raised that the slots were sold for money and I had to suspend further recruitment.

“I have called on the Commissioner of Police and the State Security Service to investigate the matter and report back to me.’’

He condemned the situation and pledged to get to its roots. (NAN)
