How police detonates three explosives in BUK

KANO- A detachment of anti – bombs disposal squad Tuesday successfully detonated three high caliber time bombs strategically planted in and around the faculty of Science, Faculty of Law and the Sports complex of the old Campus of Bayero University Kano, by unknown persons.

Before detonating the bombs, the anti-bombs experts backed by heavily armed personnel had cordoned off the area and successfully evacuated people to safety.

It will be recalled that Bayero University Kano witnessed a devastating assault from unknown gunmen penultimate week that left no fewer than 20 Christian worshippers, including two professors dead during a church service in the Institution.

Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relation Officer, ASP Magaji Musa Majia told Vanguard that “our men have professionally and successfully detonates the three bombs and I am glad to inform you that no one was hurt during the process. “

According to him, the University authorities invited the police to investigate some strange objects, which was later established to be high caliber Improvised Explosive Devise planted by unknown persons in the school.

Tuesday discovery of time bombs in the old campus came barely two weeks  after a similar IED’’s was concealed by yet to be identified persons or Group  at the Sociology Department of the new Campus  located along Kano – Gwarzo Federal Highways.

The University’s Public Relations Officer, Mr. Mustapha Zaharadeen also confirmed the incident. He told Vanguard on phone that “yes, we found a strange and suspicious objects in our old  campus and invited the police to establish the facts of the matter”

Zaharadeen stated that the University authorities were holding crucial meetings concerning the recent happenings in the institution, saying that official position of the school would be made known to the public in due course.
