OAU to host NUGA 2012

BY SIKIRU AKINOLA, OAU

The Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife,  has been awarded the hosting rights of this year’s edition of the Nigerian Universities Games Association (NUGA). The hosting, no doubt, is going to be historic as the University is already celebrating its 50th anniversary.

Since the announcement of hosting rights, the school authorities have left no stone unturned in its preparations. The sport complex has been put under ‘scientific maintenance’ while the athletes have been under training.

It was celebration galore last week when officials of NUGA led by its president, Dr. Ken Anugweje visited the institution to sign the Memorandum of Understanding for the games which will hold later this year. Re-assuring all stakeholders in sports, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. ‘Tale Omole expressed the institution’s readiness to host the 2012 edition of NUGA.

He assured NUGA delegates of the provision and availability of the best of sporting activities by OAU in order to make the year 2012 edition of NUGA games a hitch-free one.
