Nigeria Football Federation secretary-general Musa Amadu said that a date cannot be put on the resumption of the technical director the federation appointed in March 2012.
The Belgian-born Tom Saintfeit was scheduled to resume on May 1, but according to Mr. Amadu this was not possible as work permit for Saintfeit had not been secured.
“Our challenge right now is to secure a work permit for Saintfeit. We have been on it for months now and you know how it works. For any foreigner to work here he must be first cleared by the Federal government,” he said
Controversy trailed the appointment of the former Ethiopian and Namibia coach as concerned stakeholders objected to his employment arguing that there were Nigerians capable of doing the job. The sports ministry was also said to have kicked against it.
“I don’t want us to harp on this insinuation that the sports ministry is not happy with the appointment of Saintfeit. We are working hard to see that the man resumes but I can’t say when or how soon,” Amadu said.
