BENIN—POINEER governor of Edo State, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, has said that the simultaneous attacks on ThisDay Newspaper offices in Abuja and Kaduna and other newspapers, were planned to tell the media that they were not immune to attacks.
According to him, the attacks were clearly designed to have a particularly effect of terrorizing people into knowing that even the media was not insulated against attacks.
He said: “The attacks were also designed for maximum publicity, maximum effect. So, we are being faced with a new reality which I begin to doubt we can cope with because of the suicide bombing aspect.”
Oyegun spoke with Vanguard yesterday in interview in Benin, while reacting to the spate of bombings in the country.
He said: “We cannot now hide the fact that there is a religious connotation to what is going on.”
