Land dispute: One injured as hoodlums attack community

OWERRI – One person was injured yesterday as hoodlums numbering about 50 from the neighbouring Umuguma community, Owerri West local  government area of Imo State attacked indigenes of Amawom in Owerri Municipal area.

Vanguard investigations revealed that the invaders, who were armed with weapons, including knives, were laying claims to a parcel of land.

Although no life was lost during the invasion but Vanguard gathered that at least one person was injured and taken to hospital for treatment, while about four of the invaders were arrested.

Confirming the incident in an interview, the arrowhead of the agitation, Sir Macdonald Ebere, said that Area K, World Bank Housing Estate was the property of Amawom people, adding that nothing will make them to abandon their God-given land.

Efforts made to reach the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Mr. Samuel Oodee, for comment failed as his mobile telephone was switched off.
