Industrialist laments lack of conducive environment for businesses

An industrialist, Mr. Ajulu Uzodike, has decried the failure of governments to make the environment conducive for the growth of private businesses.

Uzodike made the remark at a workshop on the “State of businesses and communities in Anambra’’ organised by the Anambra council of the NUJ in Awka on Wednesday.

He said lack of environment conducive to business had led to a directionless growth in the nation’s economy and urged governments at all levels to reverse the trend to engender a healthy growth in the industrial sector.

According to him, “to ensure speedy growth, the Nigerian government should focus on a direction and make the private sector toe such a line instead of allowing private businesses to grow in different directions.

Uzodike said various countries of the world that had excelled in their economies are known to have supported the growth of private businesses; using them as a launch pad to champion a direction in their growth.

He listed some developed and emerging economies such as the U.S.A., Japan, Korea and India, as some which championed their economic growth and development.

He said they achieved these through models like premium industries, ICT, investment in education and empowerment of established entrepreneurs.

The industrialist stressed that growth models should be determined by the prevailing economic circumstances and that the highest level of government must be involved in growing the Nigerian economy. NAN
