Group warns against turning Edo into war zone

By DAPO AKINREFON
A pressure group, UNUEDO Foundation, has appealed to politicians in Edo State not to turn the state into a war zone.

It, however, called on security agencies to maintain law and order ahead of the July 14 governorship elections in the state.

Addressing a press conference, weekend, in Lagos, President of Unuedo Foundation, Chief Lawson Omokhodion, accused the Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, and Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, of allegedly over heating the polity in Edo State.

The group expressed displeasure over the rate at which political murders and assassinations have occurred, saying:  “The recent accusations and counter-accusations by the two main political parties in the state, in respect of the motive and responsibility for the fatal accident involving the convoy of the state governor, are simply disheartening.”

While asking the respective political parties to eschew violence, he said: “The Edo gubernatorial election ought to be a brotherly tango with no victor or vanguished, because at the end of the day, we all have a common goal of ensuring the greatest good for the greatest number of residents of the state. The heavy hand of the security agencies will help us achieve this end.”

Speaking further, Chief  Omokhodion appealed to both the state government and the political parties “angling to win the hearts and minds of Edo State citizens on July 14 to ensure that peace and tranquillity is maintained across the length and breadth of the state.
