Contractors threaten Chevron

By EMMA ARUBI
WARRI—KOKODIAGBENE community contractors, executing the multi-million naira cottage hospital for the oil–rich people of Warri South-West Local Government Area of Delta State, have given Chevron Nigeria Limited a 48-hour ultimatum to pay them for work done or face their wrath.

The community’s Financial Secretary, Mr Jackson Timiyan, in a joint statement with Captain Jonathan Uti and Godfrey Ike, on behalf of the other contractors, said the ultimatum became imperative as banks from where loans were obtained for the execution of the project were about to confisticate their property used as collateral due to default in re-payment of the loans.

They claimed that they had executed the hospital project to Chevron’s specification and expressed worry that the company was not leaving up to its pledge of paying up for them to meet the completion time frame.

“We, the contractors went into borrowing from our banks for our various constructions pending Chevron’s disbursement. Now the project is uncompleted and no disbursement had been made to us over a year,” they complained.

They called on the company to expedite action on the payment to the contractors so that they can complete the project early.
