ABUJA—Worried by recent attacks on universities, particularly the bombing of Bayero University, Kano, where over 15 died and several others injured, Minister of Education, Ruqayyatu Rufa’i, has cried to the Federal Executive Council, FEC, for solutions.

Rufai, at the ongoing Ministerial Platform organised by the Federal Ministry of Information yesterday, lamented that the new wave of attacks deployed by the insurgent group on tertiary institutions, called for greater concern by stakeholders.

The minister said she tabled the issue at Wednesday’s FEC meeting where government assured that it would work with other security agencies to forestall further attacks and strengthen security in university campuses across the country.

Before the minister could finish expressing her concern over the bomb attack on universities, a group of students, under the aegis of South Western Students Association, stormed the National Press Centre, protesting bomb attacks on universities.

Wielding placards with such inscriptions as “South Western students totally against bombing of campuses and gun attack on Nigerian students, the students urged the Federal Government to urgently nip the situation in the bud.
