NO fewer than 9,186 aged persons are to benefit from another batch of the social security scheme initiated by Ekiti State Government.
The government said it had already committed the sum of N350 million so far on the scheme.
Commissioner for Labour, Productivity and Human Capital Development, Mr. Apalara Wole-Adewumi said at a briefing in Ado-Ekiti.
Adewumi said N50 million was being expended on the scheme monthly by the state government and explained that an enumeration exercise was carried out between February 20 and 25, 2012 where 34,050 elderly persons were registered.
He said while 3,840 persons were found to have registered more than once, 545 others were found to be enjoying one pension or the other.
According to him, this category of elders was subsequently disqualified.
He said only 9,186 persons were found worthy to take part in the scheme and would therefore join the over 10,000 that were pioneer beneficiaries of the scheme.
