3 docked for murder 3 yrs after

LAGOS— An Igbosere Magistrate’s Court, Lagos, has remanded three persons, arraigned for the   killing of one Wasiu Ajose by setting him ablaze, following a fight of supremacy over control of Mushin and its motor parks, which had been on since 2009.

The three suspects, Muritala Akanbi, 32; Seun Kukoyi, a.k.a. West, 27 and Dare Odeyemi a.k.a, Ere, 40, were arrested by men of the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad, Lagos,  after being on the run since 2010.

It was gathered that following a complaint lodged by the family of the victim at FSARS, Lagos, that the accused persons had killed their son, a team of securitymen led by Inspector Banjoko Oluwamimo, began a manhunt of the suspected gang, since 2010.

According to the police, the gang was arrested after police operatives stormed their hide-out in Mushin.

During the raid, some of the gang members escaped while the three accused were arrested.

When the alleged gang’s hideout was raided by the police, items said to have been recovered were two automatic pump action gun with serial number 211 and 104, one police AK 47 rifle magazine, one smoke pistol with serial number 112293, one small iron box rifle care kit, one double barrel long gun with serial number 13742, one military face cap, one damaged pump action, one single barrel gun, 29 live catridges and 10 Kz live ammunition.

The police claimed  that the accused persons on  June 26, 2010, reportedly kidnapped Ajose in Mushin and took him to Kayode Bus-Stop, Idiaraba, Mushin, where they shot him dead and escaped after setting him ablaze.

In their confessional statement to the police, all the accused persons allegedly said the arms and ammunition were procured for them by prominent leaders in the state to fight in the supremacy tussle over the control of Mushin.

Meanwhile, the pleas of the accused persons were not taken, as the prosecutor, Mr Femi Oloruntoba, presented to the court, an application for the remand of the accused persons in prison under Section 264 (1) of the Administration of Criminal Justice of Lagos State 2011, pending the receipt of legal advice from the State Directorate of Public Prosecution to try the matter at the high court.
