Sunshine’ll qualify for knock-out stage – Captain

By IME BASSEY
Super Eagles and Sunshine Stars captain, Godfrey Oboabona has expressed joy over his team’s 3-0 win over Recreativo do Libolo in the preliminary rounds of the CAF Champions league at the Dipo Dina International Stadium, Ijebo-Ode last weekend.

Speaking to Sunday Vanguard Sports after the game, Oboabona stated that he was sure of the victory and thanked coach Ogunbote for fielding him in the game.

“I am happy to be part of the team having seen how we lost the first leg in Angola 4-1. I knew that we could defeat them with a wide margin at home if we got our act right. It wasn’t easy for us and we were able to get the job done and move to the next round of the championship.

“I wasn’t moved by the first leg victory but I thank God for making it a reality for us here at home. I want to thank the coach, Gbenga Ogunbote for fielding me in the game, it boosted my morale and that of the team which paid off with the last goal through the penalty spot,” he said.

Commenting on the team’s qualification for the group stage, the center-back said, “By the special grace of God, we will qualify for the group stage of the competition and make Nigerians proud,” Oboabona added.
