Stick to your programme, Moniedafe charges Keshi

By Ime Bassey
Former Bendel Insurance star player, Francis Moniedafe has urged Super Eagles gaffer, Stephen Keshi to stick to his programme of transforming the Super Eagles to what it ought to be despite losing 3-2 to the Pharaohs of Egypt last week.

The former NNB player praised Keshi for a good job so far but charged him to commit more of the home lads in the team.

“All I am asking Keshi to do is to stay focussed and not be swayed by every comment made by Nigerians as touching the process of rebuilding the Super Eagles so he can achieve success,” Moniedafe said.

On the progress so far, the ex-international said the reflection of the Premier league should be seen in the national team in terms of the quality of players flying the country’s colour.

“Keshi is doing a great job by rebuilding the team with home-based players. This will help in creating a better foundation for the national team. Every team must have its strength in its home players before looking outside its shores for pros.

“It is not too good for a team to rely strictly on foreign players, it doesn’t speak well of the country’s football strength. I am not saying that the foreign pros should not be included in the team, I am only saying that they must not be the bedrock of it.

“The Egyptian national team did it and got results which is still in the good books of CAF. We can emulate them because we have abundant talents in the country as compared to Egypt. I expect Nigerians to give him time to get this right,” Moniedafe added.
