The ongoing effort by the Federal Government to improve the comfort of passengers through the remodeling of airports across the country is receiving commendations from passengers at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) and the General Aviation Terminal (GAT), Lagos.
Some of the passengers contacted by Vanguard lauded the effort of the government noting that the on going remodeling of the airports across the country was a welcome development.
One of the passengers, Mr. Chike Nnamdi said that the federal government was on the right path in ensuring that Nigerian airports meet up with the standards of other airports across the world.
He said’ with the on-going remodeling of the airports in place, Nigeria will be rated amongst countries that have befitting airports when completed”
Mr. Nnamdi however stressed that the on-going remodeling work should involve the expansion of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos noting that the terminal building needs to be expanded or a new terminal building built to accommodate the rising in passenger traffic.
Meanwhile, the Head of Public Affairs of the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Mr. Akin Olukunle affirmed that the federal government under the aegis of FAAN was committed towards making Nigerian airports world class airports.
Mr. Olukunle further pointed out that most of the remodeling work at the various airports was near completion.
”We have over seventy percent completion at GAT, Lagos , that of ‘ Kano is almost completed, Abuja , Port-Harcourt and the rest of them”
”As you know, we are replacing all the obsolete facilities at the airports to make the traveling passengers feel comfortable at the airports” Olukunle added.
Earlier, the Federal Government under the auspices of the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has indicated its interest in remodeling 11 airports across the country with the sum of N19billion.
