Okowa condemns attacks on Thisday

By Emmanuel Aziken
Senator Ifeanyi Okowa has condemned last Thursday’s attacks on the offices of Thisday in Abuja and Kaduna, lamenting the difficulty in rooting out the terrorist elememts, he said were living among the people.

He called for more support for the security agencies especially in the area of information gathering through technological devices and human intelligence.

He said: “It is a challenge that we have now and we are aware that the security agencies are doing their best, more so that the kind of security situation we have now is not a straight fight with the enemy, because the enemy lives among us as our people.

“It is quite challenging for them. I believe we need to re-train our security people, more and more on intelligence gathering. We need to re-tool our security agencies with modern security devices that can help them pick up warning signals early enough.

“If you look at the current budget, you will see that we do not have enough money appropriated for the re-tooling of the security agencies, more of the money is in the recurrent expenditure.”
