Lagos – Ikechukwu Okoro, a Lagos bus driver, who allegedly knocked down a pedestrian in Mile 2 area of the metropolis, was on Monday charged to court.
Okoro, 38, who resides at 73, Oyedeji St., Ajegunle, Lagos, is facing a two-count charge of dangerous driving and manslaughter at a Surulere Magistrates’ Court.
The prosecution told the court that the accused caused the death of a pedestrian– 24-year-old Abass Sahadu– who was living in Festac Town.
CPL. Samuel Ishola said the accused had on March 26 at about 1.30 p.m. killed Sahadu at First Rainbow area, through reckless driving on Mile 2- Oshodi Expressway.
“Okoro drove his Volkswagen Bus with registration no. XZ 842 EKY in a dangerous manner and killed Sahadu while (he was) crossing the highway,’’ he said.
The prosecutor said the offences contravened Sections 27 and 28 of the Road Traffic Act of Lagos State.
Okoro, who entered a no-guilty plea, was granted bail with two sureties, who should show evidence of three years tax payment in Lagos State.
No amount was, however, fixed for the bail.
