IKEJA—Former governor of Lagos State and National Leader of Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, yesterday, denied report that he had a meeting with President Goodluck Jonathan,  weekend, in Lagos.

He said he was not in the country at the time the said meeting between him and President Jonathan was allegedly held.

Governor Babatunde Fashola has also denied meeting President Jonathan.

Fashola, in a statement by his Special Adviser on Media, Mr. Hakeem Bello, said Jonathan never invited him to any meeting, and he never attended any such meeting “in State House, Marina, Lagos.”

Tinubu, who spoke to newsmen at the General Aviation Terminal, GAT, Lagos, said there was no meeting between  Fashola and Oba Rilwan Akiolu of Lagos with Jonathan.

Tinubu made this clarification following speculation that there was a meeting between the trio and President Jonathan when he visited Lagos State, weekend.

He said: “I learnt the President came to Lagos. I was not even aware that the President was coming to Lagos until after the visit of the Oba at night. So, there was no meeting between myself, the President or the Oba of Lagos and I am very sure that the governor (Fashola) did not attend any such meeting.”

On Sunday’s bombing at Bayero University, Kano, in which two professors and 23 others were killed, Tinubu said PDP should stop blaming other political parties for the  security challenges and tragedy confronting the country.

He said: “Since 1999, PDP has been ruling this country, they claim to have the wisdom and all the apparatus and each time they react to the question of national security and tragedy confronting the country, they have not stopped blaming one party or the other, that is passing bulk. They are the ones who said they are in government and in power. So,  if they cannot solve the problem of security, why blame it on others?”

He called on the Federal Government and PDP to cry out for help to various quarters to see how they could solve the problem of security in the country once and for all, adding that looking for other political parties to blame was running round like headless chickens.

He said: “There is an ideological difference between us,  but Nigeria belong to all of us. The best thing PDP or the government should do is to cry out for help.”
