WARRI—CRISIS is brewing among Bolou-Ndoro, Ebeberegbene and other communities in Burutu Local Government Area of Delta State, following the stoppage of a Federal Government canal dredging project, being handled by First Marine and Engineering Services Limited by the people of Ebeberegbene.

Protesting members of Eberegbene community and other communities, who claimed they would be impacted negatively by the project, Monday, forced the company to stop work on the dredging project, which was awarded by the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs.

Managing Director of the company, Chief Joe Penawou, told Vanguard, yesterday, on phone, that “The matter is being resolved.”

He explained that the firm had not breached any environmental law and that the Minister of Niger Delta, Elder Godsday Orubebe, whose ministry awarded the contract, was from the local government area and would not have done anything to cause problem to his people.
