AKWA Ibom State Governor, Chief Godswill Akpabio, weekend, enjoined Nigerians to allow the lessons of the Easter to inspire them to make sacrifices for the unity and progress of the state and the country.

Akpabio who gave the advice during this year’s Easter message broadcast on the both radio and television stations to the people said: “By His death and  resurrection, love shall reign among our people.”

He said: “Christ died and resurrected so that we could conquer death and be cleansed from iniquities. God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten son that whosoever believes in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life.”

The governor said the lesson of Easter should not be lost on the people, observing “it is one of the most important events in the Christian calendar.

It gives us cause to rejoice that by His death and resurrection, Jesus Christ gave us victory over death and liberated us from its fear. That he went through the pains of crucifixion for us also provides us with a lesson in public service and a template for us to place the public good above our personal comfort.

Shared commitment

“Therefore, as we celebrate the death and resurrection of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, let us find comfort in our shared commitment to unity and find strength in our common aspiration for a greater Akwa Ibom State.

“Let the life and teachings of Jesus inspire the good people of our state to strive for a world knit together by love and a state where our children shall be judged by the contents of  their character and not theirethnic or tribal stock.”

The governor acknowledged that his administration has lifted the veil of  lies and falsehood unleashed on the people in the media by enemies of progress during the 2011 Governorship elections in the state, noting “through righteousness and truth, as espoused in the teachings of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, we stand today in the midst of what we and our country celebrate as ‘uncommon transformation’.

Akpabio mentioned some of the uncommon transformation programmes to include construction of the Third Ring Road in Uyo with three additional flyovers at various stages of completion, commencement of Olympic-sized Stadium, on-going dualisation of Aka-Nung Udoe Road/Ibesikpo-Asutan Road, completion of Ikot Ekan-Enen Nsit- Mbiokporo Road with three bridges and on-going construction of Aka-Ikot Eka -Abak Road, among others.
