Suspected cattle rustlers early Friday killed two members of a vigilante group at Riyas near Maikatako village of Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The attackers were said to have stormed the village at about 12.30 am shooting sporadically and in the process killed the two men identified as Mangut Dakwan, 35 and Magit Manasseh, 28 who were members of the local security outfit.
Member representing Bokkos in the state House of Assembly, Mr. Titus Alams who spoke to journalists on the development said the heavily armed attackers numbering about 15 took on the local security and killed the duo in the process.
He described the situation as unfortunate adding that some unscrupulous people were bent on frustrating the efforts of the various arms of government to restore peace to the state.
The villagers took to the streets on Friday morning to protest the killings urging government to guarantee their safety.
The villagers who blocked the Barkin-Ladi – Bokkos road, disrupting vehicular movement for some time, were later persuaded to open the road by the legislator who visited to sympathize on the development.
Confirming the incident, Media Officer of the Special Task Force maintaining security in the state, Captain Markus Ndahyelyah said the attackers went away with a yet tp be ascertained number of cows.
He said security men were on the trail of the attackers and urged the people to remain calm and go about their normal business.
