Yobo, Yakubu thumb up for Moses

BY ONOCHIE ANIBEZE
Joesph Yobo and Yakubu Aiyegbeni were confident that another Premiership club will sign up Moses if Wigan are relegated. Victor Moses  plays for Wigan Athletic which is at the bottom of the table in the Premier League.

“He is a fine player and will surely not stay at Wigan if they go down,” Aiyegbeni said on board Air Rwanda as the Eagles flew back to Abuja after last Wednesday’s Nations Cup qualifying match. His own club Blackburn Rovers are also struggling at the bottom of the table but Aiyegbeni hoped that they would escape relegation.

“We have played almost all the big clubs so we have a chance to float out of the relegation because we are likely to win more matches from now,” Aiyegbeni said.

General issues were being discussed on board and when it centred on the Premier League and those who may be relegated Aiyegbeni said he was not sure what would happen to Queens Park Rangers where Taiye Taiwo is on loan. Currently, Queens Park have the same points with Blackburn but are 16th on the table, just ahead of Blackburn who are 17th on the table and among the last four. Wolves, Bolton and Wigan are rubbing shoulders as the last three.

“Moses is such a fine player who does not deserve to go down. If his Wigan go down as it is likely they will, Moses will not go down with them. Another club will go for him,” Aiyegbeni said with authority.

Yobo made similar remarks at the hotel after the match.

“Moses plays well and may not go down with Wigan. I’m sure another Premier League club will sign him on. He plays so well. You saw what he did when he came into the match. He has class and will do more in a bigger club,” Yobo said.

Moses himself said of his debut: “I expected victory in my debut. Victory was more important to me than any accolades but I’m happy it (controversy over his nationality) has been settled now. I have always wanted to play for Nigeria and I’m happy I did. I’m hoping that we qualify for the Nations Cup and go on to do well there. I believe in team work and we will do it as a team.”
