Rivers People Congress, RPC, has described as reckless, the statement credited to Northern governors, led by Governor Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu of Niger State, calling for review of Revenue Derivation Formula.
In a statement by National Coordinator of RPC and leader of Okirika people in Lagos, Chief Martins Kunumgbe, the group called on the Federal Government to call the governor and his Northern colleagues to order, adding that the statement was a threat to national peace.
He said: “He has proved that he is not qualified to speak publicly on national matters, since he can not guard his utterances. The Northern governors should tackle Boko Haram and solve their various internal problems.
“The north is not united; otherwise it could have tackled the Boko Haram menace as we tackled militancy in the Niger Delta.
“When we told the militants in the South-South to drop their arms, they did. The Northern governors should stop the bombings in their states first and stop looking for trouble just because a South-South man is now president of the nation.
“The Niger Delta militants fought against the injustice done to the region through oil drilling and gas flaring with their attendant adverse effects on the people and their communities. What is Boko Haram fighting for?”
The group urged the northern governors, Arewa Consultative Forum and other stakeholders to embrace the Jonathan administration, warning that “the South-South will retaliate all activities aimed at frustrating the government anytime a president emerges from the North.”
