BENIN – THE Prof. Osarhiemen Osunbor Campaign Organisation, has rejected the February 25, governorship primary of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Edo State, alleging conspiracy by the party leaders to ensure that he did not emerge the party flag bearer in the forthcoming guber election.
In a statement by Chief Best Ose, Dr. Macauley Iyare and Dr. Folus Ejele, the organisation alleged that the exercise was “conducted under coercion and intimidation of hand picked delegates, ostensibly orchestrated to hood wink the delegates towards predetermined result, targeted against the Professor of Law, who came last in the governorship contest with 22 votes.”
However, the state chairman of the party, Chief Dan Orbih, insisted that the exercise was free and fair; adding that the result of the exercise reflected the wishes of the delegates.
However, the Osunbor Campaign Organisation maintained, “it was laughable to recall how a former governor recorded an abysmal result at the exercise which many described as the most embarrassing display of a primary election charade and wondered if the essence of the process was not to win the forthcoming July 14 governorship election.”
Meanwhile, members of the organisation in the three senatorial districts of the state said that they were studying the situation and will make their stand known when as soon as consultations with political stakeholders across the state had been concluded.
