Enugu – The apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohaneze Ndigbo, has expressed gratitude to President Goodluck Jonathan and others who played vital roles in the burial of the late Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu.
In a thank-you message addressed to the president by the President-General of Ohaneze Ndigbo, Amb. Ralph Uwechue, the organisation said the president had shown the way to national reconciliation and that the entire nation rallied to his stand.
Uwechue, in the lette on Tuesday, stated that “the magnificent role by the president in the course of this unique event loomed large on the national horizon.
“Ohaneze Ndigbo, on behalf of the entire Igbo nation at home and abroad, expresses its thanks to Mr President, Vice President Namadi Sambo, traditional and religious leaders, our gallant armed forces and the good people of our great country for the singular post-humous honour done to a great national hero.
“The unprecedented outpour of encomiums throughout the country has finally put paid to any lingering doubt that the unfortunate civil war still subsists in the minds of Nigerians.
“Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu at his death has sealed national reconciliation in that regard.
“Mr President, you have shown the way to that reconciliation and the nation rallied to your stand. May God continue to bless and strengthen the bond of unity of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”
Uwechue urged the president to accept the most respectful and fraternal regards of the Ohaneze Ndigbo members. (NAN)
