Ministry preparing robust ICT policy – Omobola Johnson

Lagos – Mrs Omobola Johnson, the Minister of Communication and Technology, on Friday said that the ministry was working towards a robust policy on Information and Communications and Technology (ICT).

She made this remarks during a stakeholders forum on the draft ICT policy organised by the ministry in Lagos.

Johnson said that in the bid to achieve this, the ministry had set up an adhoc committee to harmonise all existing policies from the different areas of the ICT industry.

“Today, we are here to discuss on the harmonised draft ICT policy which will enhance the intended robustness of the policy,’’ the minister said.

Johnson said that the ministry, had in January, sought for comments from stakeholders to enhance the policy .

Prof. Raymond Akwule, chairman of the committe, said that the committee had reviewed existing policies and asked questions to enable it harmonise the documents.

He also said that comments received bordered on the structure, substance and contents of the policy document.

Akwule said that it would take the committee sometimes before coming out with a final draft.

Dr. Ibrahim Daudu, the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, said that the forum would fulfill the promise of the minister that stakeholders would be fully involved in making effective ICT policy.

“Inputs by all stakeholders will be critically looked into so that the policy can stand the task of shaping the ICT industry,” he said. (NAN)
