What appears to be a semblance of peace has returned to Nigerian football following the resolution of the crisis over the legitimacy of the Nigeria Football Federation Executive Committee but the people who dragged NFF to court, Dr. Sam Sam Jaja and Ray Nnaji, have warned the football body to quickly implement the resolutions reached at the meeting.
At the meeting held at the office of Minister of Sports, Bolaji Abdulahi, NFF agreed to make Jaja an honourary member, reverse his disqualification and tender an unreserved letter of apology while the football ruling body also agreed to withdraw Ray Nnaji’s suspension and banning and publicise such, pay reasonable compensation to him and pay all his outstanding referee allowance, subject to verification.
The following persons signed the document: Aminu Maigari and Ahmadu Musa for the NFF; Abdullahi and Patrick Ekeji for the National Sports Commission, Nnaji and Jaja.
Speaking after the meeting, Nnaji said that he was expecting the NFF to quickly implement its part of the resolutions, failure which he warned was going to make him return to the trenches to seek justice.
“I am a man of integrity. I fight for my right and I abhor any thing bad. I want peace for our football and that was what made him to agree to the terms of resolutions reached at the meeting on Tuesday. I will do my part and I expect the NFF to also do theirs.
“I do not want to believe that they would flout this agreement because nobody was under duress when it was signed. I expect them to quickly implement their part so that there would be no more room for suspicion. But if they try to play smart, I would not hesitate to fight back”, added Nnaji, a FIFA-badged referee.
Also speaking, Jaja said NFF has a duty to respect the decision of the peace deal if football was to move forward in the country.
“The ball is now in their court so that our football can move forward. I wait to see their action before I know what next to do. If they act in bad faith, you can expect another round of battle. But must state that I am for peace”, said Jaja.
And allaying any fear of double play, NFF, said that it was going to respect the terms of the resolutions.
“We are going to implement the decisions as soon as possible. We mean well for the growth of our football and are ready to do what will bring peace to the game”, said vice-President, Mike Umeh.
