I won’t interfere in Bayelsa – Jonathan

By SAMUEL OYADONGHA
President Goodluck Jonathan, yesterday, in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital, said he would not interfere in the administration of the state. He said the responsibility of governance of his home state lies in the hands of the governor and his team as well as the Peoples Democratic Party at the state level.

According to him, the task of administering the country is enormous and as such he would not meddle in the administration of Bayelsa State.

“I have enormous task to manage the country in Abuja. Why should

I think about the affairs of Bayelsa State,” he said, adding, “On my own part, considering my innate character, I’m not going to interfere with the state administration.

Jonathan spoke shortly after the conduct of the state PDP Congress held at Peace Park in Yenagoa.

He said, “I was here as a deputy governor and most of you knew, especially people from Ogbia that I had no business with the running of Ogbia local government. I never interfered. As a Vice President then and now the President of the country, I can say clearly that I am not going to interfere in the management of Bayelsa State.

That is in the hands of the governor, his team and the party at the state level”.

Continuing he said, “It is unfortunate some of you who are my personal friends or relations may want one thing or the other from the government; I would play a very minimal role in that respect. The governor has to govern the state and we have to encourage him by giving any little assistance from Abuja, with a view to transform Bayelsa based on the dreams of our founding fathers.”

The president lauded members of the PDP in the state for exhibiting high level maturity and peace during the state congress exercise.

He also commended the security agencies and the Independent National Electoral Commission for their support and logistics.

Meanwhile, Col Sam Inokoba (rtd) has emerged as chairman of the PDP in the state, through consensus arrangement.

A total of 456 delegates participated in the congress which was presided over by Mr Ini Okori.

Nyanayo Tubo emerged as the party Vice Chairman; Keku Godspower as Secretary; Gbalipre Turner was returned as Treasurer; Macbere Osom Publicity Secretary] among others.
