The Federal Government has described as unacceptable the lack of interest in the study of mathematics and science-related courses by students in Nigeria.
Minister of Education, Professor Ruqayyatu Ahmed Rufa’i, who stated this recently in Abuja at the flag-off of the 2012 Nigeria Mathematical Year held at the Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Centre, Abuja with the theme: Mathematics, Key to National Transformation, said the trend must be checked if the country has to move forward.
Prof. Ahmed Rufa’i, expressed sadness that Nigeria has remained largely a consumer nation because of lack of investment in science and technology in the past.
