…Lawmakers kick over court injunction
NATIONAL Assembly members under the aegis of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) in Edo State, yesterday, called for the removal of Justice M.N. Esowe, who granted an injunction ordering the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) in the state from embarking on last Thursday’s solidarity rally for the second term ambition of Governor Adams Oshiomhole.
The Chairman of the Congress of Progressive Change (CPC) in Edo State, Comrade Godwin Erhahon, had gone to the court asking it to stop the rally.
However, the rally, which attracted the cream of the organized labour, including veterans like Comrade Ali Ciroma, Comrade Hassan Sunmonu and the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Alhaji Abdulwaheed Omar, and his Trade Union Congress counterpart, Comrade Peter Esele, held successfully, after the labour leaders described the action of the court as unconstitutional.
Addressing newsmen in Benin City yesterday, the member, representing Uhumwonde/Orhionmwon Federal Constituency, and Deputy Minority Whip of the House of Reps, Mr Samson Osagie, said the action of the judge was an abuse of judicial powers because “the court condescended so low by entertaining a suit with political undertones from political parties functionaries who are not employers of labour”.
