WARRI—EX-MILITANT leader and founder of defunct Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger-Delta, MEND, Chief Government Ekpemupolo, alias Tompolo, yesterday, said northern governors and leaders asking for reduction of 13 per cent derivation to oil producing states are calling for trouble.
He also said President Goodluck Jonathan had the right to run for another term in office after 2015 if he wanted.
Speaking to newsmen at Oporoza during the annual Egbesu Amasikumor Festival of Gbaramatu kingdom, in Warri South West Local Government Area, Delta State, he said: “Some of the northern governors don’t know how the Niger Delta terrain is. Recently there was this explosion at Koluama in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of Bayelsa State and for the past two to three months, they have been feeling the impact of that explosion. There is no governor or community from the north that is feeling the impact.
“So, what we have is what we will use to develop the region. Some of these governors are just making trouble; let me leave it at that.”
On the issue of the President running for a second term in office, Tompolo said: “President Jonathan can run for second term because former President Olusegun Obasanjo did eight years and if not for illness that led to his death, former President Umaru Yar’Adua would have done eight years.
“So, President Jonathan has every right to run for a second term and nobody can stop him, except God.”
