Crowd honour Ojukwu in Aba

Mammoth  crowd welcomed  the remains of late elder statesman and defunct Biafra Republic Leader, Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu in Aba in Abia state.

The secessionist leader Odumegwu Ojukwu, who proclaimed the Republic of Biafra in 1967, was flown back to full military honours Monday, three months after his death in London and it is the turn of Abia State to honour the great leader.

The Odumegwu Ojukwu, secessionist leader, had earlier  requested that his remains be brought to Aba rather than the seat of Government,  Umuahia.

MASSOB hails FG’s decision to give Ojukwu state burial

The Movement for the Actualisation of Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) has lauded the Federal Government’s decision to give Chief Chukwuemeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu a state burial.

Chief Rommy Ezeonwuka, South-East Leader of MASSOB, made the disclosure at a news conference in Onitsha, Anambra on Monday.

He said: “we as leaders of the movement are comfortable with the Federal Government’s decision to give Ojukwu a state burial.

“We will ensure maximum co-operation with the Federal Government.

“There will be no confrontation, only co-operation,’’ Ezeonwuka, who is also known as `Ogirishi-Igbo’, assured.

It was learnt that the national leadership of MASSOB had ordered its members to wear only the designed mourning dress on the burial day, bearing the inscription: “Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu (Eze Igbo Gburugburu) 1933 – 2011.”

Meanwhile, there will be no hoisting of MASSOB flags, badges, caps and other uniforms, bearing the Biafran rising sun logo on the burial day as a mark of honour for the late Igbo leader. (NAN)
