AWKA- GOVERNOR  Peter Obi of Anambra State weekend flagged off 25 kilometres Ichida- Azigbo-Amichi-Osumenyi-Akwaihedi-Unubi road in Nnewi South local council of the state estimated to cost N2 billion.

Obi said his administration would continue to blaze the trail in the development of rural communities to give the people a sense of belonging.

According to the governor, in as much as there is need to develop the cities, it is also necessary that rural dwellers received the dividends of democracy.

The governor, who was cheered by the appreciative crowd, said his development style had made Anambra the state with the best road network in the country.

He told the people that it was better to give them such road projects than to share money and food items to them, noting that his government had spent over N8billion on roads in Nnewi South.

He made it clear that he did not owe the contractors any money and therefore expected no excuses from them.

In his speech, the contractor, Chief Leo Ike Okoye, affirmed that the governor had fully paid him and promised to do quality work.

He said that the construction of the drainage had almost been completed while tarring had already begun from the Ichida end. He said the project would be concluded by February next year.

Earlier in their joint address, the communities commended the governor for the success of his integrated policy which is aimed at developing of all sectors at the same time.

They particularly noted that the completion of the road project would provide the shortest distance between Orlu in Imo State and Onitsha in Anambra.
