Maybach: The exit of an icon

Maybach: The exit of an icon

*Maybach models that shook the world in the last ten years

THIS is a sad story for luxury car freaks. Maybach is extincted. The Daimler’s ailing luxo-brand passed on last year leaving behind the Mercedes Benz Marque. Mercedes Benz has continued to wax stronger with more models while Maybach gave up the ghost. Maybach was designed to compete with the Rolls Royce. But it never did.

Daimler CEO Dieter Zetsche confirmed the death of the luxury brand: with only 3,000 Maybachs sold since the Marque was riveved ten years ago and the 57/62 (Maybach models) reaching the end of its life, Zetsche says the ill-fated limo wont be replaced.

“It would not be sensible to develop a successor for the current Maybach,” he admitted. “The sales chances for the Mercedes brand are better than Maybach’s”

Maybach sold 200 cars in2010: by contrast, Rolls Royce shifted nearly 3,000. Mercedes however will fill the Maybach void with a super-posh Long Wheel Base (LWB) ‘Pullman Version of the next S-Class, due next year.
