The Ibadan Polo Club ground, Eleiyele came alive on Wednesday as the clubs’ 2012 Polo Tornament get underway.
At the opnening ceremony, the President of the club, Labi Adeyemi welcomed all players, fans, sponsurs and members of the club to the tournament.
The president expressed saddness over the initail poseponement of the tournament which was billed to hold last month but was shifted because of the strike by the organised labour and other drawbacks.
He appreciated all the sponsurs and marketing aprnarns for their support and also the teams from Kano State and Lagos.
Speaking to Saturday Vanguard Sports, the clubs’ Vice President/Chairman of the organising committee, Sola Ajayi said the tournament is aimed at producing quality players for the country and also creating awareness of the sports.
“The club is the second oldest club in the country and we have the tradition of holding our tourn-ament every year around January/February just before that of the Lagos Polo club. This year’s event has been very ineteresting having six clubs from Lagos and Kano and five from Ibadan. We have sponsurs surpotining the toruney furnishing us with joy. We hope that our sponsurs will continue, having seen the level the toruney has gotten to”, Adeyemi said.
