The Abuja Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (ABUCCIMA) has called for growth enhancing policies for the industrial sector in the country.
In a communiqué issued at the end of pre-investiture colloquium in honour of Engr. Solomon Nyaga as the 8th president of ABUCCIMA, tagged “Transforming the Nigerian economy from trade and import driven to a production and technology driven economy”, the Director General of ABUCCIMA, Sir Joe Wenegieme, said that government must continue to improve the competitiveness of the business environment through growth enhancing policies as was done in the cement manufacturing industry.
“Transforming from trade and import driven to a production and technology driven economy must involve development and use of local raw materials, production of highly competitive product, altitudinal changes towards made-in-Nigeria goods, access to funds and reduction of social insecurity among others.
“To actualize the goal of a production and technology driven economy, there must be commitment to a one united Nigeria, creation of global products, establishment of multinational companies and establishment of National Science and Technology Institute under the chairmanship of the Nigerian president” he stated.
According to him, for the Nigerian economy to be transformed to a production based and technologically driven economy, there is need to urgently address the challenges militating against the growth of the manufacturing sector.
