BENIN – A group, Concerned Staff of the University of Benin, CSUB, has raised alarm over alleged attempts to turn the institution into another Benin Empire by ensuring the removal of non-indigenes of the area from important positions in the university.

The group alleged that already, “the Vice- Chancellor is a Bini man, the Registrar is Bini, the Director of Works is Bini, the Director of Administration is Bini and the Provost, Ekewan Campus, is also Bini.’’ It alleged that attempts were being made to remove the Bursar,  Mrs. May Ifeoma Nwoye, for another Bini man or woman.

Spokesman of CSUB, Mr. Oghenejovwo Unukere, said Mrs Nwoye’s only offence was that ‘’she is not a Bini woman.’’

The group which was reacting to a call by a group, UNIBEN Development Stakeholders Forum, UDSF, on the Federal Government not to re-appoint Dr. Nwoye for a second tenure, explained that she had helped in generating funds for the University.
