ABUJA—The internal crisis in the National Youth Council of Nigeria, NYCN, has resumed with a move to enforce the initial suspension of its president, Olawale Ajani, Vanguard has learnt.
This followed the inconclusive meeting of the council executives held recently to take a position on whether to support or move against the removal of fuel subsidy by the Federal Government.
Vanguard gathered that some executive council members were drumming support for President Jonathan because of alleged financial inducement, while the president of the council, Olawale Ajani, and his faction are strongly behind organised labour to protest the removal of fuel subsidy.
Meanwhile, the Secretary-General of NYCN, Mr. Saleh Kubah, told Vanguard that they were not in any way financially induced from any quarter.
He added that Olawale Ajani was no longer the president of the council, following his suspension last year.
He said: “There is no financial gratification for this support. I want Nigerians to understand that the youths of this country are in full support of total deregulation in the oil sector, so that this money can be freed for infrastruc-tural development.
“Let no Nigerian think that the few that are shouting under labour and civil society represent the majority.
“Today, our teeming youths are not employed because our economy is not working. We cannot continue to spend trillions of naira to import fuel at the expense of developing our local infrastructure.
“So we are sensitising Nigerian youths to be able to support this policy of government and we call on youths to continue their support for President Jonathan.”
