Remi Tinubu empowers students, rural women

THE joy of the people of Lagos Central Senatorial district knew no bounds when their representative in the Senate, Senator Oluremi Tinubu empowered rural women and awarded scholarship to many of her constituents.

This gesture was made through the Senator’s constituency initiatives tagged; Post-Secondary School Scholarship Scheme PSSS and Petty Traders Empowerment Capital Scheme PETECS.

The aim was to assist brilliant but indigent youths acquire university education as well as to give supplementary capitals to some petty traders to improve on their standard of living.

Presenting the awards to the beneficiaries at the maiden Town Hall Meeting of her senatorial district, Tinubu said the gesture was part of her constituency initiatives to impact positively on the lives of her people.

“My first initiative, the PSSS, which was launched on August 16 this year, is a step towards empowering some of our constituency’s brilliant but indigent youths for the future,” she explained.

Two beneficiaries of PSSS were drawn from each of the five Local Government Areas and eight Local Council Development Areas in the Senatorial District. They received an annual sum of N100, 000 towards financing their university education over a period of four years.

Also, 624 applicants will receive a one-off bursary award of N10, 000 each towards defraying the cost of purchasing academic books.

On the PETECS, Mrs. Tinubu said she launched the scheme to empower some of the struggling petty traders in her senatorial district. Under this scheme, 50 beneficiaries from each of the 13 LGs/LCDAs will receive N20, 000 to capitalise an existing petty trade.

She assured her constituents that she would continue to interact with them on regularly basis with a view of attending to their needs and solicited for their continued support.

“At the Senate in Abuja, we have continued to be guided by the people-centred philosophy of our party and even, in the face of discouraging realities at the centre, our resolve shall not weaken.

“I believe that everyone has a part to play for us to build the Nigeria of our dream. We all have something to contribute towards the growth of a vibrant nation- be it time, skills or money”, she enthused.
